COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PRESS, ARBOR, MECHANICAL, HAND OPERATED, SINGLE LEVERAGE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to MIL-P-80261, type I, class 1, (1 ton thru 3 ton).
Abstract. This description covers bench or pedestal mounted, hand operated arbor presses of the single leverage type, which are used to force arbors into and out of holes or to assemble and disassemble parts.
Classification. The presses shall be of one type and class and of the following sizes. The size to be furnished shall be as specified (see ordering data).
Size 1 – 1 ton
Size 1-½ - 1-1/2 ton
Size 2 – 2 ton
Size 3 – 3 ton
Salient characteristics.
1. Frame. The frame shall be of the “C” (gap) type. The frame shall support the ram, ram operating mechanism, and work support plate. The frame shall contain a machined table surface which supports the work support plate. The ram shall be perpendicular to the table surface to an accuracy of 0.025 inch per 6 inches of ram travel. The frame table shall have a slot aligned with the axis of the ram which will allow passage of an arbor. The frame shall be designed for mounting onto a bench, or a pedestal.
2. Work support plate. The work support plate shall be circular with not less than four equally spaced slots for the passage of an arbor. The work support plate shall be removable and shall allow the desired plate slot to the positioned below the ram.
