COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PRESS, ARBOR, MECHANICAL, HAND OPERATED, ELEVATING KNEE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to MIL-P-80261, type III, class 1, style A.
Abstract. This description covers floor type, hand operated, mechanical arbor presses with an elevating knee which are used to force arbors into and out of holes or to assemble and disassemble parts.
Classification. The presses shall be of one type and class and of the following sizes. The size to be furnished shall be as specified (see ordering data).
Size 5 – 5 ton
Size 7 – 7 ton
Size 12 – 12 ton
Size 15 – 15 ton
Salient characteristics.
1. Frame. The frame shall be of the “C” (gap) type. The frame shall support the ram, ram operating mechanism, and an adjustable knee with a work plate. The knee shall be adjustable for the desired working heights. The means of raising and lowering the knee shall be the manufacturer’s standard designed offered to the commercial market. The frame table shall have a slot aligned with the axis of the ram which will allow passage of an arbor. The frame shall be designed for mounting onto a bench, or a pedestal.
2. Work support plate. The work support plate shall be circular with not less than four equally spaced slots for the passage of an arbor. The work support plate shall be removable and shall allow the desired plate slot to the positioned below the ram.
